Gameplay and Tropy Guide - World of Final Fantasy

World of Final Fantasy Mini Trophy/Gameplay Guide

This guide is intended to help players progress through the game World of Final Fantasy. Contained within is both information about the various trophies in the game, as well as other gameplay information.

The Basics

Outside of battle the main things you'll be worried about are chests, secret areas and of course traversing the various dungeons. The game is rather straight forward in that regard, and aside from the main details I'm not going to worry about this.

Battle is conducted with two teams called Stacks. A Stack is a combination of a S, M, and L sized character in one unit. So technically you control 2 teams of 3 for a total of 6 battle characters. When your characters are combined into a Stack, so are their stats. Basically they come together as one stronger being by standing on one another. In addition, abilities of all of them become available for use. I guess you could say the only downside is less turns, but most characters are extremely vulnerable when not Stacked, and can be killed in a single hit many times, so you'll want to be Stacked the vast majority of the time.

In addition, the skills you have can be changed by Stacking. For example, if two characters in the same Stack have the Fire spell, then while they are in a Stack you will have access to the Fira spell. If you Unstack, then you won't be able to use it anymore until they Stack again.

The real challenge of battle though is probably AP. Special skills like magic and such require AP. There are no large Mana pools in this one. Each character has a whopping 12 AP (when Stacked, 4 each Unstacked) to work with. On the plus side it regenerates each turn, the lower it is the more you can have regenerated, but there isn't going to be a lot of pumping out high end skills unless you want to use a lot of items and turns to replenish that AP.

A final note is Wobbling. What I will call Wobble Damage builds up each time your character takes successive attacks. Some attacks and skills cause more Wobble Damage than others. Once a Stack has reached a certain level of Wobble Damage, a gauge will appear above their head and you will see them start to physically sway. At Yellow you have some leadway, but at Red you are in danger. If a Stack takes too much Wobble Damage it will Collapse. This causes the Stack to break into individual characters who are briefly stunned.

There are 3 basic ways to deal with Wobbling. First is defending. Stacks that are defending stop wobbling while defending, but the Wobble Damage is not immediately erased. If you attack on the next turn they will probably still be wobbling. Defending multiple times so turns pass in the battle with cause the Wobble Damage to disappear. The second way is to make the Stack Unstack. Then you can have the first character create the stack again and its Wobble Damage will be back to 0. This method is great if you have leeway on the ATB gauge, but it can be dangerous too so be careful. The third way is to use an item or skill that reduces or eliminates Wobble Damage. Wobblestopper is one such item, and there's equivalent skills you can learn too, though they cost more AP than I like to use for that and recommend overall using Unstacking and Wobblestoppers.

Mirages, Prismariums and Opportunities, Oh My!
(sorry, couldn't help myself...)

To build stacks to fight you have to have Mirages (monsters basically). The key to lining your pockets with Mirages is to capture them via pokeba- I mean Prismariums. However, it's not so easy as just finding the monster. Once in battle you must meet a certain condition for each monster before they will present an opportunity to catch them. This changes between various monsters but generally fall into things such as hit with x element attack or inflict x status ailment or leave as the last enemy alive in the battle, etc.. I'll cover the specifics of what each monster requires to capture further on in the guide. The game does a good job of presenting this information, and the spell Libra will allow you to see what it takes to catch any catchable monster, so have at it.

And don't worry, none of the monsters or pretty much anything is missable. If you can't meet a certain condition at the time, come back. However, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor if you catch as much as possible as you're going through the story. Not only will you have more choices, but you can be building experience for the various monsters for some of the big objectives like 100% Mirage Manual and 100 Mastered Mirage Boards (more on this later).

Transfiguration

Transfiguration is the ability to change a Mirage into another form. There are many Mirages that have a S, M, and/or Large version. As you level them up via the Mirage Boards, you can unlock access to these other forms. The good part about this is the basic stats from each form like Strength+ stack regardless of which form the Mirage is in. However, the major skills do not act the same way. If you want a skill only the M sized form of the Mirage has, then the Mirage must be in that form for you to use that ability in battle.

Mirages can be freely changed between forms without cost as long as you have unlocked them. Sometimes it's as simple as reaching a certain level, and other times you must have special items called Momentos to unlock certain forms. Those will be addressed in the 100% Mirage Manual trophy area.

The stats also stack between forms that aren't directly related. For example, there are usually two or more Mirages that are similar (like the white Tonberry and green Tonberry), but the Green Tonberry can only turn into the green forms unless you Transfigure it to the white and vice versa. However, the stats like Strength+ will carry over regardless of what form you are using. Once again though, special skills are dependent on the form itself. You must master the Mirage Boards of all forms to 100% master any given Mirage.

Castle Exnine

Minor spoiler here, but I just wanted to note that you shouldn't panic if there's something you need in Castle Exnine like the secret area or a Mirage, but you can't go there anymore. After fully clearing the story to the true ending, it will then open back up.

Trophy Section

From here I will start covering the various trophies and how you can get them.

Here's a video of the in-game Mirage Manual at 100%

Now, to be clear you actually have to have possessed every Mirage in the Mirage Manual (with the exception of a handful that are never obtainable, just seeing those ones counts for them). To possess them you either have to catch them, or Transfigure one Mirage into another form. It's important to note that you don't have to keep it Transfigured. Once you've possessed the Transfigured form it will be recorded in the Mirage Manual.

Below are the monsters listed in Mirage Manual order, along with where or how to get them.

It's worth noting that there are some story Mirages that have two forms, such as Ifrit and Shiva. You must possess both the form with a star which can't Transfigure into other Mirages, and the form that comes from Transfiguring certain mirages and has no star. I've noted these where applicable.

Also, many opportunities can be done multiple times to increase the chance of capturing. This works with pretty much anything that doesn't say Once per battle.

Many of the status effect requirement can be met with items that can be bought from the store.

Key is to complete the minigame in less than 10 turns and with none of your characters dying. It's quite challenging and relies on a lot of luck. I positioned my units like in the diagram below. I put magitek armor on 3, Shelke on 2 and Vivi 1. Then it's just a matter of getting lucky and finding them quickly without missing or getting killed. You can only miss or move 4 times, as you need a minimum of 6 turns to kill the enemies. No one can die.

Caretaker

Master your first Mirage Board

You'll definitely get this along the course of playing the game.

Legendary Caretaker

Mastered 100 Mirage Boards.

This is probably the most time consuming trophy of them all. The good news is they don't have to all be gold stars (that's sync level to 100% unless it was bugged) as I only had 75 gold star Mirages when it popped, so some of the first level silver type stars must have counted too.

Where I grind for experience: Assuming you have stacks capable of doing everything else in the game, I suggest the 4th postgame dungeon, right outside the teleport to XG, where there's a save point. Here there's groups of 6 Chocochick and Mu that appear that are worth over 200k a battle (I had EXP Plus Mirajewel). If you've got someone with a strong attack that hits all the enemies (Like Shiva's Diamond Dust) you can wipe them all out in one hit, then run over to the Save Point to replenish AP, and repeat, switching out Mirages as they get mastered.

A Medium Awakens

Obtained your first Champion Medal.

The first one you can get is after the events and Intervention Quests involving the Warrior of Light

Sweet Revenge

Defeated Your first Murkrift Mirage

See All in a Day's Murk for more.

All in a Day's Murk

Defeated every last Murkrift Mirage.

You can see the Murkrifts on the map (except Airship ones) of the area so you shouldn't have too many problems.

1 in Wellspring Woods
1 in Pyreglow forest
1 in Saronia Harbor Dungeon
1 in Icicle Ridge
1 in Valley Seven
1 in Phantom Sands
1 in Mako Reactor 0
A whole group in Train Graveyard, 1 more appears after you clear them
1 in Underwater Temple

6 in the airship

3 are easy to see, fly around a bit and you'll see them.

3 are harder, they are:

1 is hard to say in the ice mountains of the higher left icy continent
1 is in the lower left away from the continents off by itself.
1 is up to the upper left near Balamb Garden, which is floating off by itself away from the continents.

Thirst for the Undiscovered

Found the Secret Area in every dungeon.

The Watch Plains

Secret Area is located in the final area. Instead of taking the exit gate, go left and you should find a way down, which leads to the secret area.

Pyreglow Forest

The Secret Area of Pyreglow Forest is accessed near the end, in the same section as the save point. Instead of taking the nearby exit to go toward the end backtrack and take the North route to the next area. In the next area there are several exits. Look SE and you will see some lights flying around that exit. Those lights mark the right way, so go that way. Then go through the NW.  Then go through the NE. Then go through the NW and you'll be in the Secret Area.

Icicle Ridge

The Secret Area of Icicle Ridge is accessed by going to the third area where you slide around on the frozen ice. In the west part of this is a block you have to Smash through. This leads to a switch that, once activated, drops land onto the frozen area below. Now you can get to the other path you couldn't get to before, which is the Secret Area.

Saronia Docks

The Secret Area of Saronia Docks is accessed by ringing the 3 bells in the area in a certain order. 1st ring the bell that is in the NE part of the map, between a Flutter (wing) symbol and a cannon symbol. Then go back up the stairs and ring the other bell. Go back across to the previous area with the first 2 ships using the cannon and ring the bell at the dead end between the two ships. Then finally go back and ring the 1st bell you rang again, and it should unlock. Kupicaroon is found there.

Valley Seven

To get to the Secret Area there's a switch kind of in the middle of the map and once you activate it you can get to the Secret Area.

The Windswept Mire

The Secret Area is located in the second to last screen near the save point. Instead of continuing forward go left and you'll find a switch to activate which leads to the Secret Area.

The Phantom Sands

To get to the Secret Area look at the map. There are 3 identical areas you have to pass through, each with a pit near the end. In the second area if you approach the pit you can fall down into the Secret Area.

Underground Prison

If looking at your map in the SE corner there's a save point and a Flutter area. Fly across the Flutter area and go into the Secret Area. I'm not sure if this was there the first time you are here during the story.

Mako Reactor 0

The secret area of Mako 0 can be accessed by returning after you go through in the story. Behind the Murkrift is a chest that will let you get by the Gimme Golem. To get to the Gimme Golem you have to hit the console that makes the alarm go off and opens the locked doors. Run through again like you did in the story but go up the passage where you see the Gimme Golem. There's a console on the other side that turns the alarm off and unlocks everything. Gigantaur is in the room beyond.

The Train Graveyard

This Secret Area is right near the end, off to the SE. There's a switch that opens the way. If you see a bunch of Murkrifts you're in the right place.

The Crystal Tower

This Secret Area can be reached by going through until you reach the first save point about midway through. Nearby is a Switch. Activate it and follow the path along to the Secret Area.

The Chainroad

To reach the Chainroad Secret Area look at your map. There are 2 types of areas. 1 is thin and has circles made by the diverging paths. The other is thicker and has more irregular shapes. You want to go to the furthest right of the second type, third from the right if looking at the full map of the area. Go all the way down to the bottom of that area and you'll find a teleport to the Secret Area. I'm not sure if this was there the first time you go there.

Castle Exnine

Secret Area in Castle Exnine is accessed after you can return here after the Main Story. Go all the way to the end where you can climb up into the castle and off the purple boxes. There's a purple warp crystal that takes you to the Secret Area.

I'm not sure about these two:

Dragon Scars

SE Part of the map if looking at the full map, near 2 Flutter points there's a door to a dead end area. Not sure if this actually a Secret Area as there is no Mirage there.

The Sunken Temple

If you jump through the Giant Shell once it opens and follow the path to the room with the exit teleport, there's another door here that you can go through after the events that lead there, there's chests inside

The Power of Fantasy

The Cranberry Knights

You get this for winning the fights against the Cranberry Knights team at the Coliseum or an Intervention quest.

Nine Lives

Added Tamamohime to your roster.

This is story related. To get it after you've earned it check the Quest section in the Adventure Log.

Accursed Man-thing!

Defeated the Quacho Queen with one of Lann's attacks.

I got this by fighting her down in the Sunken Temple, and getting her hp low and then Unstacking Lann's Stack and hitting her with him, defeating her.

Never Give Up the Ghost

Defeated the Undead Princess 10 times.

Once you can find her outside of Sharlotta's Inn just fight and defeat her 10 times.

Love Tap

Defeated the Princess Goblin with the Warrior of Light.

You can fight her in the area between Cornelia and the Watchplains once she appears there. Then just get her health low enough that you can defeat her with the Warrior of Light Summon.

A New Challenger

Won your first Coliseum battle.

See Reigning Champ for more.

Winning Streak

Defeated 30 teams at the Coliseum.

See Reigning Champ for More.

Reigning Champ

Defeated every last opponent in the Coliseum.

There's nothing secret or anything to this one. They appear as you progress through the game, so by the time you've completed everything just go in and fight the battles, or do them as you progress through the story. There's harder fights than what is in the Coliseum, so if you're strong enough to get those trophies this one should be no problem.

Across the Unknown

Braved and completed the new dungeons that appeared.

After you complete the main story you enter the Post Game. At this point 3 dungeons appear in the Tea Girl's room. They are made up of various areas from the game. There's no map but you should be able to find your way. At the end of each one is a stack of enemies that serves as a Boss. Defeat them in all 3 dungeons to clear them and earn this trophy.

Crossover Cogna

Defeated the Cogna known as XG.

After you get Across the Unknown, a fourth dungeon will appear in the Tea Girl's room. At the end of that dungeon is a Teleport Stone that leads to XG. Defeat him and you'll get a Prism of him.

Here's my fight against him. Keep in mind this is when I first got to him, and not with my final party, so it's a little messy. Feel free to get stronger and put together better stacks than the basic ones I'm using.

Magitek Knight

Defeated many foes using any Magitek armor.

You earn this playing the Sandstalker mini-game in the Twins' Room.

You have to win the mini game 10 times.

Blitzball Ace

Cleared the sky of uncountable einhanders.

This must be done in the minigame in the Twins' room once it becomes available.

I'm not sure what the exact score or number of enemies hit required is. In the video I score 8700 points and get it, but my current guess is it's probably 5000 points.

Some tips:

There's no time limit so take your time.

The enemies only have like half a dozen areas that they enter from and they seem to always take the same flight pattern depending on where they start. Once you know them it helps a lot.

If your aim is poor play it safe and wait to blast the ones that fly right at you. Even if you're pretty good you may want to avoid shooting at the ones flying in weird pattern or away from you.

You CAN be hurt (lose a throw) if an enemy flies directly into you before you hit it. However, if you are doing the motion Tidus does when you do a full power shot they will fly through you without damaging you.

Points seem to be determined by enemy type, with black being worth the most.

The Fast and the Nebulous

Reached the final chamber of the Nether Nebula in record time.

This must be done in the minigame in the Twins' Room once it becomes available.

You need to get to the end in under 1 minute.

I found what helps a lot is first getting used to how far apart they appear. There's a beat to it, and once you get it down that helps.

The other thing is learning to stagger as you approach an enemy. What I mean by this is stopping moving foward very briefly right in front of the enemy, striking it down, waiting another brief moment, and then continuing forward. The reason for this is you can still be hurt by the enemy even after striking it, so you need to wait just a tiny moment after hitting it. Learning to stagger right before they appear also gives you a brief moment to process what the enemy is before attacking, which saves time over hitting wrong.

FYI unless you can somehow do really well and make up time it seems you can only miss once.

A final tip is to listen to the sound. Each Mirage has a different cry when they appear, which can help you reflexively take them down in addition to just sight.

Zip Zip WHACK!

Thwacked a whole bunch of cactuars in a single thrashing.

This must be done in the minigame in the Twins' Room once it becomes available.

You'll need to score 5k points in the time limit without missing more than twice (or rather you pretty much won't make it if you miss that much)

The main issue with this one is, unlike the Einhander one where skill and practice will get you there, this one has a large component of luck. I had some perfect rounds where I didn't miss and I was still short the points because of what cactuar appeared.

So basically to win, you must both have a good round with your skills, and a good round with your luck.

First of all is trying to hit the Conductor if he appears. Not only is he worth a nice 250, but he puts 10 seconds on your clock. I'm not sure if you can make it without hitting him at least once. Next most important target is giant cactuar. There's no saying if or when they appear but they are worth a whopping 1k, so prioritize them.

Another important thing to realize is you can only hit 3 for the majority of the level each time a group appears. Even if 4 appear you can only get 3. As the clock winds down, like around 20 sec, you can only hit 2, and for the last few seconds you can usually only hit one.
